Strönfeldsee Heek: Construction Start Approaches

All four building permits issued by the Borken district for the flagship project "Natur-Erlebnis-See Strönfeld" have been submitted to the funding body on time – according to Mayor Michael Averbeck, it was "tricky and under time pressure, but we made it." The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is funding up to €1.42 million (EFRE/JTF "Erlebnis.NRW"), around 80 percent of the costs.

A sustainable local recreation area is planned for the south shore: a bathing area with beach, a promenade, barrier-free water access, sports and play areas, and sanitary facilities usable by the DLRG lifesaving association. Nature conservation is included too: shallow-water zones, richly structured shorelines, and protection for protected species. The road that currently divides the lake will remain for now; a restaurant like the one at Drilandsee (Gronau) is still an open possibility.

Completion is required by autumn 2028 under the funding conditions, with a construction period of "a few months." Construction can only begin once the lake is released: TEGRO holds an approved permit to extract sand there by wet dredging until the end of 2027. Exactly when the municipality will gain access to the site next year is still being negotiated – no firm date has been set yet.
